HA:TFELT vs JYP: The Album Wars

As we should all know my now, formerly known as Wonder Girls' Yenny/Yeeun has took the ever-so-common route for Wonder Girls members and started working on her own individual solo life. As a result, she released an mini-album entitled Me? and also started to shine her producer/composer-like qualities, the album being basically "her own" and not falling back on anyone for tracks however, only Park Jin Young for support. As we all should also know by now, Park Jin Young was flabbergasted at her decision to put so many dark songs in the album prior to the release and told her she should at least add a few happier songs however, she pushed against the force of JYP and revealed a 11 paged letter focusing solely on why she should have released the album, JYP being exasperated at her choice and just giving her the go.

There's been lots of huffling and buffling about this case from media outlets, numerous people taking sides and for the most part, international fans siding with Yeeun while Korean fans took the side of Park Jin Young however, I'm going to show both sides of the story and take into account my opinion of who is right or wrong instead of just completely downing Jin Young or Yeeun.

Yeeun's side
The power of individuality is a beautiful thing... this probably being one of the main reasons why international fans are taking the side of Yeeun without much thought in the process. HA:TFELT expressed herself through her own composing conveying a range of emotions that the majority of Korean idols don't even show and I applaud her standing up to the force telling her to go against Park Jin Young. She did it more for herself rather than for the public, I suppose, and though this album didn't top the charts or give her a certified all-kill, it certainly did give her the feeling of knowing she has achieved something: expressing herself. Maybe it wasn't her goal to sell but instead was to not be the bubblegum bitch that Wonder Girls' image forced her to be. She wanted to be more mature, more serious and more well, herself, and that shouldn't be something to get angry at.

Park Jin Young's side

Regardless, I understand Park Jin Young's side and everyone defending him. I mean, he took her in and he wound her up as well as the other Wonder Girls and JYP Entertainment entertainers to be artist material. To break out of their shell. To be completely and utterly amazing. Yet now that she's getting some praise for composing on her own, she's not even going to take baby steps but is just going to completely let go of her guardian's hand and walk on her own two feet? Those songs displaying her feelings could have been saved for later when she was more of an established solo artist. Park Jin Young was looking out for her and trying to establish her in the solo career world before pulling the amount of tricks she did. With an artist no matter what, they need to first establish themselves before going out and about and doing the crazy things they want to do in order to succeed and stay successful. Park Jin Young was acting rationally--like a father to his children--yet she abandoned him as quickly as he picked her up.

The verdict

I'm not completely pressed about this case but after thinking thoroughly about this, I really do feel as if there should have been a split between the two. Of course, self-expression is amazing however, she should have expressed herself either after or with better tunes that were more pleasing to the public tastes. It should have been an album that was helped on by Park Jin Young who rose them, Wonder Girls, to the top with his own composed songs yet still have her as a writer, as well, because she should have taken baby steps. All-in-all, the album is tolerable--not exactly my cup of tea after listening to most of the songs--and after hearing that they don't even talk anymore because of this dispute is truly confusing me. I felt that putting this article out was needed to show my opinion in the case through analysis.

What do you think of the Yenny/Yeeun/HA:TFELT vs. JYP conflict? Are you on Yenny's side, JYP's side or like me, split down the middle? Comment below!

It's Official: Wonder Girls is Done

Better late than never, Wonder Girls' pride and joy, Sohee, officially packed her bags and took the first boat out of the sinking ship better known as the Wonder Girls. She's always had an eye for acting and never wanted to be an idol like JYP forced her as, anyway, and therefore, pursuing acting, while the other girls including Sunye resigned with the company.
I'm happy for Sohee. I really am. Even with their last Korean comeback song, Like This, which in my honest opinion was loads better than two-thirds of the songs that came out that year, Wonder Girls have never been able to pick themselves up. And with Sunye's unexpected marriage and baby, the barely possible of reviving the group quickly turned to impossible.
Sohee and Wonder Girls had a lot going for them and when Wonder Girls ventured off to the United States, I truly believed they still had a chance until solely Miss A came to the beasts', JYP's, eye and the beauty turned from Sohee to Suzy. Wonder Girls were at the top and JYP sunk them to the bottom with poor management and care and therefore, Sohee who, as mentioned previously, wanted to be a actress all along, realized her as an individual still had time left and did not want to settle for that kind of nonsense.

Whether JYP will be lifted from their reign of idiocy, I really doubt it. They're about to produce a new group although they already have could-be-better groups that need management like Miss A, JJ Project, Sunye and 15& (arguably Baek Ah Yeon). They're already losing themselves with Wonder Girls and 2PM and should focus on the ones they have that are still fresh rather than the ones they have and are already sinking or the ones they're yet to have.

To sum, JYP is the worst company out of them all. They can't manage, they can't decide, they can't prove themselves and seems to be ran by a bunch of hooligans rather than wise minds. Now that Wonder Girls and KARA are coming to their close, it only leaves Girls' Generation and 2NE1 left. And being that their contracts are expiring within the next year or two, this leaves an interesting thought as to who'll be next.

What do you think of the Sohee news? And who do you think will be next to disband? As you know, comment below.

Future of Idol Groups: Wonder Girls' Edition

It's basically official--Wonder Girls is done. With their American advancement which took them from their reigning throne back in 2009, Sunye's wedding in 2012, her following pregnancy in 2013 as well as the indefinite hiatus it threw the five girls into, it seems like JYP Entertainment has dug the girls in a hole in which they have no way of getting out of. With the past editions of the Future of Idol Groups, I decoded and estimated the reigning time of the groups Girls' Generation and 2NE1 before they faced disbandment--this edition hitting the previous nation's girl group, Wonder Girls, hard and will be placing the five current members including Sunmi in order from greatest to least chance of staying in the limelight after disbandment.

Sohee - The group's face and most popular member Sohee stands tall on the number one spot despite her short stature. She recently started up her acting career in the drama Rose Day... and it's actually kind of good. Although I wouldn't expect her to be a singer in the future, the probability of her dropping idoldom and picking up acting (the career she wanted all along, by the way. She said she joined JYP as an aspiring actress however, was coerced into being an idol) seems the highest out of all the Wonder Girls

Sunmi - Not exactly a Wonder Girl anymore, this dropout has once again became active in the industry... this time, as a soloist. Holding her solo debut with 24 Hours, Sunmi showed that despite her resigning from the group a few years back to pursue her "studies" (in a more recent interview revealed the real reason was the stress), she's still got 'it' in her... and that 'it' could be enough to let her be a successful soloist.

Yubin - Having some appearances in media while the indefinite hiatus is still going on, Yubin seems as if she could maybe stay in somewhat famous post-WG. I wouldn't see her as a singer, dancer... or even a rapper but, she could pull a Sohee and attempt acting. In fact, I feel as if she did actually try to act and proved, much like Sohee, that she was good at it or much less, even average, she could probably use that as a starting point while expanding and improving it bit by bit.

Yenny - I had a bit of a struggle with Yeeun and Hyerim... but I found more of a reason to put Yeeun before Hyerim due to the possessing skills. Let's be honest--Yeeun's not the best at singing, dancing, rapping... or even looking good... but she does make songs. She may or may not be the same type of celeb after Wonder Girls (performing type) however, with this skill, it seems like if she worked more and more with music production and behind-the-scenes work, she could be a producer for companies in the future.

Hyerim - Similar to Yenny, she's not the best at anything including visuals... however with her, she doesn't have, or at least I've never seen her demonstrate, huge skills that could maintain her fame even after disbandment. Not to mention, she's the newest member of Wonder Girls and has among the smallest fan base in the group... if anything, I'd see her emceeing but other than that, she's done for.

Sunye - Sunye, Sunye, Sunye. If she didn't get hitched so soon, she'd be among the top 3 wonder girls with the largest chance of success post-disbandment. She had a pretty decent singing voice, a pretty decent fan following and a pretty decent image as the benevolent  harmless and caring leader which could've kept her relevant... and even after the marriage, Sunye still had a chance of fame after Wonder Girls but she blew it--being that she put a bun in her oven, chose to stay in the group of youngsters who still had life left in them and push them in an indefinite hiatus while saying she'll do more missionary work in Haiti after her pregnancy to make people hate her. Even if she did want to go back (she seems like she doesn't), us netizens never forget and will bring this to her grave--the uncanny amount of spite she managed to pick up unshakable.

As usual, I'd like to end with the group as a whole this time, not including ex-member Sunmi. These girls had a long run starting from their debut and their what-seems-to-be last track Like This. Rumored by supposed insiders, their contracts are set to expire sometime next year, and there's no telling what'll happen when the time comes, most of us preparing for the worst--they renew their contracts while Sunye keeps them on hiatus they disband. With their bad luck which started around four years ago, I'd expect one or maybe two at a stretch girls remaining famous while the rest meeting their doom. Likewise, I actually like Wonder Girls but they've been going downhill for the longest time now and their future is inevitably obvious.

My Views: Sunye Getting Married

That's right, guys! Wonder Girls' vocalist, Sunye, is tying the knot! She released a letter translated by allkpop below.

A letter I am sending on November 27, 2012…
I’m not the type to get nervous on stage.. But right at this moment.. Honestly I’m a little nervous.. While there are times that I might post things for no special reason, today there is a rather special reason.
Although I can’t always see you, as people who are close to me and I am truly thankful for, I would rather tell you myself than have you all hear this from other people. January 26, 2013 will be a very special day to me. I will be getting married, making two people one and beginning to walk the path of life together.
Don’t be too sad! Like the way we’ve laughed and cried together throughout the years, I hope you can share my feelings from where you are on January 26th. And the Wonder Girls members who were there for me and believed in me throughout the decision-making process.. And the JYP employees and family.. Thank you all so much!” cr. allkpop

For anyone who has been on a Korean entertainment news site, Twitter, Facebook or any
20130331_seoulbeats_SNSDother largely used news/social networking website within the last few hours, one would be well-aware that Sunye is engaged with her boyfriend of at the least 1 year. Firstly, I would like to say that I am ecstatic for Sunye and her recent engagement, contributing to the new K-Pop trend of getting into relationships with a huge bang, and I'm hoping that this marriage last long.
However, apart from my overwhelming excitement that an idol is espousing with the partner of their choice, I'm still wondering about the future of Wonder Girls from here on. Yes, Wonder Girls is still one of Korea's top groups arguably after Girls Generation and 2NE1, and, yes, Wonderfuls are still full of fans who support Sun's decision on tying the knot. Nevertheless, with Wonder Girls being a popular and established group, having a member who no longer is referred to as "innocent" or even "still available" will not receive good attention in the eyes of one of the most conservative, developed countries in the world--South Korea. And even if there was with a small chance that South Korea wouldn't mind, Sunye cannot remain an idol, going around the world and not even at the least communicating with her newly-wed husband for time periods ranging from days to weeks would be impossibly manageable. As Sunye is tying the knot, I would not be shocked to think that Sunye would want to settle down and leave the high and mighty life of being an idol with a farewell message and a few hugs shared and tears shed as she said her final goodbyes to her company and to her fans.

Yet now, I still have to contemplate about the Wonder Girl's future. JYP already stated that Wonder Girl's Sunmi will not rejoin and Wonder Girl's Yenny already confirmed with a message that Sunye are receiving loads of hate for this huge decision. With Wonder Girls Sunye not ending her contract with JYP in Wonder Girls as of now, it can be inferred that the Wonder Girls as a whole are receiving loads of hate because of their now newly engaged member as well. Though, subtle, Sunye's large contribution to the 2012's relationships gives Wonder Girls no longer their Wonder Girl title and instead makes uncle fans who meditated to the thought that the Wonder Girls will never grow up flip tables angrily in shock and cause nothing but trouble to Sunye and the Wonder Girls as she marries her fiancee in January and they whole-heartedly support her. It can also be inferred that not only because of her engagement but also because Wonder Girls prolonged inactivity which resulted in their lost of number 1 girl group that Wonder Girls will disband or do something drastic within the next few years, the unbalance and instability of JYP's arguable whole-group breadwinner becoming near if not already too much to handle.

Furthermore, though I am dreading the effect of Sunye's recent engagment, I am also ecstatic that she has a person in which she can call her love.
