Dear Diary: Review of Hyorin's One Way Love & Lonely
Dear Diary,
I wanted to shake it up a bit, rather than making a lengthy, hard to follow and simply full of words that really aren't needed type of review, I thought it'd be much better to just write a small entry in my neglected diary to say my sentiments of Hyorin's solo music video, One Way Love.
No offense diary, I was expecting something a little more... classy cause damn, this sure wasn't it. Don't get me wrong, she's a phenomenal singer and I'm not against her showing off her body. In fact, I thought SISTAR as a whole's most recent comeback video, Give It to Me, with Hyorin showing skin and doing her thing was great.
But this.
This dance was just...
atrocious.
There was no need in hell to squat with her dried-up period blood colored hair which, I might say, didn't match her skin tone at all in hopes to get another view. Hyorin, you are much better than that and whoever thought of this (let me just blame it on Starship as a whole) obviously is as crazy as Ahreum and should seek help.
I'm going to say it straight out, I didn't like this concept. I liked the song--the song wasn't bad at all except the rap which could've been substituted with something less mainstream to fit Hyorin herself and not trying to fit into the other guys' standards--I just wish they did something a little bit more... 2NE1's Missing You or her first song that I'll talk about later, Lonely... sad, ballady and better for Hyorin's voice kind of thing than this shit.
Likewise, this video reminded me a lot of HyunA's debut solo, Change, the colors, the scene and everything being similar (don't get at me STAR1s, 4nias or Aunt Jemima. DejaVu is nothing to be condemned for).
I was overall disappointed with this music video because well, it wasn't that great.
It wasn't Hyorin. It was like an actress I was watching the whole time and well, really doesn't do justice to the actually tasteful song.
Different from One Way Love, I actually somewhat liked this video. Somewhat, though.
One minute it was cute, fun, lovable Hyorin, next minute she's in a room looking like she hasn't shat for about 4 months. And it wasn't like the lyrics matched much with it... if at all. I'd rather have just one, set feeling of an either sad video cause she's lonely or a happy video cause she doesn't care she's lonely or she's trying to hide her sadness and not both, contrasting emotions.

The song was great and was the ballad I was looking for which really made up for the train-wreck that One Way Love gave.
Overall, I have to admit, her debut was disappointing at first since I watched One Way Love first, but then Lonely really raised the bar. Hyorin's an adorable person to me, not sexy and shouldn't have been given the choreography laid out in One Way Love and rather, a more natural side to her that was showcased in Lonely. Nevertheless, I'm actually pretty happy Hyorin is slaying the charts with her solo debut but just think One Way Love was... bad.

Dear Diary: G-Dragon's "Blackface"
Dear Diary,At first, I wasn't going to write about this issue--obviously, it's a huge, racial topic so I didn't want to add more to the ruckus. However, with me going around the blogosphere as well as simple websites like allkpop and SPIN, I changed initial thoughts and decided to write about what's happening.
I think what's extremely hilarious to me is how 99% of the people who are speaking about what blacks should and shouldn't do aren't even of the black race. Likewise, another hilarious factor is that a lot people are going on and on about how blacks should keep quiet but I've literally seen less than ten people of the African descent speak out about this topic openly on websites like Twitter or Youtube, around half not even siding with the anti-GD/he's-a-racist-twat side while the rest of the people talking about it are either Asian and white (men, specifically) whom are trying to preach about 'race', the meaning of life and even the history of the world as if they've turned to some type of college history professor and are the acclaimed messiahs of right and wrong when I bet they're in the same or a similar boat that I'm sailing on and hearing little to no outburst from the African and African-American community. I mean, let's be honest here for a second, there's not that many black K-Pop fans if comparing to the massive amount from other races so it's a bit obvious it's not that large... but why do people keep going on about it like there's a huge amount that's doing it?
Anyway, what I really want to base this post on are the things I've heard people say regarding this.
"Blacks think blackface is racist"
First off, give me ten pieces of evidence from an actual African or African-American ranting about it in a negative way towards G-Dragon's recent stunt that you've seen before all this buzz and stupidity came out and then we'll talk...oh, you don't have any? Wow, that's funny. Then why are you speaking about it like you've just seen an angry mob outside your window?
Secondly, obviously it's expected... in fact, if a Caucasian like well, Miley Cyrus were to pull her eyes back, making an Asian-like face, and seeming racist towards my race, what's the difference between me having the right to call out or talk about her racist actions towards me and blacks (actually, most aren't even black who're calling this out) getting metaphorically stoned, humiliated and shamed as if they're "the real racists". Not to mention, I somewhat understand the view because it's like a cultural difference. Koreans literally don't see blackface as harmful or racist because it's tradition...and frankly, there's not even that many blacks in Korea to speak up about it however, for people outside of Korea who are used to and protected to calling out things that they find offensive don't realize the cultural difference and instead see it as shaming their race.
From my point of view and as a minority in the society I'm living in where I get picked on for my 'small eyes' and inability to drive correctly, I really do see sympathy. Like, at first, I brushed off the G-Dragon thing because I truly didn't give that much of a shit because I knew the whole concept of blackface wasn't meant for offense however, after seeing the insensitive comments that were 100% more grueling, talking about 'black outrage', people saying blacks are more racist than them when in fact, every single race has their bad apples, insensitive racially-charged comments using derogatory terms, irrelevant past experiences with 'that one black person who did something wrong' and of course, people acting as if themselves being racist and saying racist and demoralizing things towards a whole, basically unresponsive community isn't racist since blacks are the true racist (one commenter even said 'blacks don't know the difference between racism and jokes'. My thoughts? No racially-motivated joke is funny. Watch 'Asian Girlz'. Likewise, I remember someone said to me a few months ago that 'Asians are good at everything except driving' when I was driving them somewhere and apparently went too slow. I said that's pretty stereotypical and racist back and they said 'No, it's a joke. It's not racist.' How can someone from an outside race tell the person inside the race that's being targeted what's racist and offensive and what's not?).

P.P.S. Fuck the 'facial mask' bit. I'm a female. I've been to sleepovers. If that shit was a facial mask, it'd get in your eye and blind you before you even had the time to take pictures. YG Entertainment already released a statement saying that it was for a photoshoot for his newest album (we can't be 100% sure that's true, though) but well... these college history professors never know when the semester is over and still have to argue about irrelevant topics and feel the need to call out a race for being racist when they've probably, again, are in the same boat as me.
P.P.P.S. Again, I never said anything about what G-Dragon did being racist so before you shove words in my mouth that haven't even left my lips, please hold on a second.
P.P.P.P.S. I'm pretty sure many native Koreans know who Trayvon Martin is....
Dear Diary: K-Pop and Non-Asians
Dear Diary,I really am concerned about K-Pop these days.
It reaches goes above and beyond and are still trying to breakthrough internationally but what is it about anti-non-Asian in K-Pop?
Companies spend so much money on their Asians selves to teach Korean, Japanese and Chinese it really frustrates me that they want to do so much yet they limit themselves.
And what about Asians from the the U.S? They aren't native but as long as they know an extra language, the company is at ease. But I would like to ask why isn't there a single non-Asian person?
You people want to appeal in other countries yet you are unwilling to give those people you're trying to appeal to a chance to debut. I mean, for K-Pop auditions, I don't see not one Non-Asian guy or girl out there who even passed the first round. And remember Lee Michelle? The girl who was supposed to debut in SuPearls under YG Entertainment but left and signed with a much smaller company? I remember on friggin' K-Pop Star when she came up to the stage, those judges looked at her like she was an alien (around 11:00). It really concerns me how K-pop can be so cruel and yet still want that promotion to debut in other countries. How companies spend so much money on something they could save up on.And what I hate the most, too, is that non-Asians get looked down upon, but lets look at reality. If there were non-Asian people in a group that would mean less money to spend (let's say, if they already know Korean) and more international recognition. But some companies are too stupid to want to do this. I think maybe... only maybe, if they did that, K-pop could finally get a bit more noticed in the United states. With that being said there is no more I could do but watch what lies ahead for K-pop.

Dear Diary: Hyosung and her weight
Dear Diary,
For years, Secret's Hyosung has been getting shit about her weight.
Back when she was 50kg (110lbs), she was hounded with the word "fat" by netizens, but now that she weighs 45kg (99lbs), she's being hounded with a new word--ugly.
Translated by allkpop, a few weeks ago, when she was questioned about her new body, she answered:
“I was personally happy that I lost a lot of weight,” she said. “But people around me say that I looked better before. Don’t you think I look better now?”
Only to be met with male members exclaiming
"You were prettier before"
Not only that, on May 11th, while appearing on MBC's Quiz to Change the World, Hyosung admitted
“I had an unintended one-year hiatus, and I got depressed because I feared that the fans would forget me,” she revealed. “I was shocked by the comments that said I became ugly after I lost weight.”
And the only person who had a brain, former member of H.O.T Moon Hee Jun commented
“I think it might be better if you don’t look at internet comments... Compared with your debut days, you’re 40 times prettier right now.”
Am I the only one who remembers her UNFtastic Crazy in Love solo performance where she still had the tits that everyone is worrying about intact? What about her 'Yes' model pictures where she looked amazing despite the shitty photoshop? Though, it's inarguable that one of her charms before her weight loss was in fact her weight, Hyosung is still pretty UNFtastic if you ask me. And as long as she's happy, then I'm happy.
While everyone does have varying opinions, it's completely vile and uncalled for to more or less force her to lose weight and then bitch at her when she finally does reach her weight loss goal, making her feel guilty about her weight loss and want to gain it back. To be honest, I really sympathize Hyosung. I bet basically every single person in the world has their own self-esteem problems and their own flaws they'd like to change... flaws people have been pointing out since basically the beginning of time and flaws they would like to change, Hyosung not being an exception to this and changing her weight, only to get a shit load of backlash back. And I really wish people would just stop giving Hyosung shit and instead of just focusing on her body just take a damn seat.

Dear Diary: Is SM entertainment cracking the whip?
Dear Diary,
I think sometimes SM Entertainment can go a little bit over board with managing their artist. It's almost as if they make them go out on stage and say, "Well, hope you do good!" when they completely acknowledge the fact that they're tired and could possibly pass out, landing flat on their face!
I mean, it's not just F(x)'s Krystal who has shown signs of "I am tired as fuck; let me just lay down for a moment."

Even the best of Asia, BoA hasn't escaped the tiredness.
So, SM, what I'm simply asking (though you probably won't read this anytime soon):
Please take better care of your musicians.
They are people, too.
And I would rather pay to see a performance of them in a good condition rather than see them sleep deprived and like zombies.
