Review: Infinite, Request

It hasn't been long since the release of their wonderfully amazing song, Destiny (*cough*and L's dating scandal*cough*) but in the extremely fast paced world of Kpop, it may have felt like an Infinite-ly long amount of time since their last comeback to their fans. Finally *sarcasm*, Infinite has returned with a commercial/music video for their latest song, Request. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out below!

The Video

Theme/Story: First thing's first: I'm confused as to the nature of this video. Is it just a music video with very heavy product placement or is it a commercial for Samsung Galaxy products. It says it's a music video but is it really? All throughout the video, I see the Samsung Note 3
I hereby dub this tech porn. Shit should be banned.
and Samsung Gear that comes along with it. Admittedly, I really want the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 so thank you Infinite for rubbing in the fact that I can't afford them. There is so much product placement and dicking around that there isn't even a story to be had (and barely a dance for that matter). It's just Infinite doing their thing and Samsung taking over the world with their amazing products. I really like that most of them aren't even doing anything too productive at the beginning. They're just too busy playing around with their technology and dancing. Although, they might have been working on fixing up their own choreography.

And what about that girl that shows up for a mere 2 seconds at the beginning and the end of the video? It was like they were trying to go with something here but forgot to actually making a story surrounding this mysterious love interest. The whole video is just fucking around, staring at cell phones, and a little bit of dancing sprinkled at the end.

Visuals: I'm not saying anyone in Infinite looks bad or anything but they just look so plain. There weren't many changes made since Destiny and honestly, they looked much better in Destiny with the cool make up and awesome outfits. I know this song isn't as intense or energetic as Destiny but they could have done something more to incorporate the smooth melody into a good story or something

This. This is good.
Dance: You don't really get to see much of the dance due to the fact that the commercial music video suffocates you with so much Samsung Galaxy that we don't really get to see much of any dance until they all get together and do a dance that is so obviously marketed towards the phone and gear that it hurts. They even do a dance with the phone in their hands (which made me worry about the safety of said phones) and when their final dance ends, their ending pose is with their wrists down and pointed in a manner that brings your attention straight to the gear on their wrists. There is, however, one small section that doesn't focus so much on the phone and gear and more on the dance. This is what the whole music video should have been like if they didn't want it to turn into a huge commercial.

The Song

Unfortunately, the song sounds like your typical Korean boy group song but done in the style of Infinite. This makes the song barely stand out from other songs released by other groups during the year. Of course there are parts of the song here and there that I like but they're so small and dispersed that there is really no use talking about it. I'm not saying the song is the worst thing to ever clog my ears with the sound of someone taking a shit, it's just... meh. Infinite has done better and they can do better.

So what do you think of the whole shabang? Do you like the song or do you share the same sentiments as me?

Also, someone please let me know whether or not this is a commercial. I am infinitely baffled.

Batshit Sasaengs Ruin "Baekhyung's" Wedding; Why Are They not In a Mental Ward Yet

Baekhyun's hyung aka "Baekhyung" was holding one of the most memorable events in any person's life: his wedding. With the EXO members including Baekhyun tagging along, they were almost positive that everything would go perfect and as planned and Baekhyung would seal the deal with his bridegroom, riding off into the sunset and living happily ever after.

Little did they know, they were wrong.

Spouts of crazy EXOtics sprang from no where just to be able to see the guys, crashing a wedding and ruining a once in a lifetime opportunity that the newlyweds will never get back and having no remorse for their selfish deeds.
-

I really just can't right now. Nearly every single day it's in the news of yet another incident with an EXO sasaeng yet this one has got to be the worst by far. Not only are they targetting the guys but they're also targetting the guys' family members on the most important days of their life, this getting way too far. At this point, I just really can't think of any other solution for the sasaeng infestion than:

1. Laws against Sasaengs,
2. SM takes matters to their own hand and are harsh fucks or
3. EXO disbands. I kind of feel bad since with barely even starting their career, they're already getting hated and stalked but well, there's nothing else left to do.

What do you think of the sasaeng wedding crashers and EXO's future? They're not gonna get rid of the sasaengs anytime soon so how do you think SM should handle it? Comment below!

Confessions of a K-Indie Band: Love X Stereo

The glorious K-Indie group, LOVEXSTEREO, is nothing but a masterpiece and a gem to the Korean entertainment industry. With their smooth beats, their keen ability to bring out flavorful tracks and simply their
individuality and confidence that radiates just from their beings, it's hard not to fall in love with the band, LOVEXSTEREO. And with my most honored opportunities so far that I have received, we were able
to chat with the unbeatable vocals of the group, Annie Ko, and get an interview out of it. If you want more information on LOVEXSTEREO, check out basically all about 'em, here.

1. Introduce yourselves.

Hello, we are Love X Stereo. Toby plays the guitar and he’s our producer. Annie is our vocalist and she plays the synthesizers. Sol is our bassist. We make alternative music with an electronic flair. Our band is based in Seoul, Korea, and we are currently unsigned.

2. Tell us about your American tour.

We recently got invited to four major festivals in The States and Canada. Including CMJ Music Marathon, M.E.A.N.Y. Fest, MidPoint Music Festival (MPMF), and Indie Week Canada. This is the main reason why we decided to go on our first North American tour. We are heading to Cincinnati, New York, Washington, Detroit, Chicago, and Toronto.

You can follow our schedule right here. >> https://tourbox.songkick.com/artists/6188444/calendar

We need all the help we can get at this point, so we decided to open up a fundraiser campaign, so you can help us by donating your contribution directly to our paypal (lovexstereo@gmail.com) directly.

All the details are written here. (Please scroll down a little until you find English text.) >> www.ucanfunding.com/project/view.php?num=767

3. I hear that you're currently recording & planning to release an album? Details about that? (name of album, title track name, what it's about, release day)

Our new EP album is titled <GLOW>. The official release date will be Sep 26, right before the day we perform at MPMF. There will be 7 songs in total, 4 new songs, and 3 remixes. Our title track will be “Lose to Win”. It has a very soothing, calm vibe with lots of energy. This hopeful song is written for everyone who gets restless about the unknown future. The clear message is this; “keep doing what you’re doing, and eventually you’ll find a way.”

4. You have released your first music video called Seoul City not that long ago and it garnered over 60,000 views in less than a week. What's Seoul City about and how does it relate to LOVEXSTEREO?

Our song “Soul City” is about our city, Seoul. We were riding our bikes along Hangang River at that time. The idea was to capture all the aspects of Seoul, and how we really think about our city. All the goods and bads. We made this song a bit longer than usual, because we actually felt that Seoul is like a never ending song. Added a little psychedelic vibe into it. Once you get to know the city, it’s hard to detach yourself from it, and you get to know more and more and more. Especially, Seoul has a huge history behind, so we felt like there’s a lot to talk about. You should see for yourself.

5. What about your newest track, Bukkeureowoyo? What's the literal and metaphorical meaning of that?

“Bu-kkeu-reo-wo-yo” literally means, “I’m embarrassed.” This song is a theme song for a real-life pop art character, The Jack. He is a famous pop artist in Korea, and “Bu-kkeu-reo-wo-yo” is his catchphrase. So we made a song out of it. The song is very addictive because the lyrics are so simple and direct. He claims this “embarrassness” is the emotion at the root of the universe.

Check his artwork here. >> https://www.facebook.com/pages/Thejack-%EB%8D%94%EC%9E%AD/493262977391512

6. What's the overall message you're trying to get across with LOVEXSTEREO's music?

We like our audience to simply enjoy our music, go with the flow, and dance along with us. But our messages are actually a little more complicated than that. The lyrics usually are about our daily lives, relationships, what we see from the news, what we really think about ourselves, and how we should live our lives. We like to ask lots of questions to others and ourselves.

7. What are your goals for the group?

Essentially, we’d like to meet the world. This tour will be the first step. We’d be more than happy to spend our lives creating great music, touring the world, and meet our fans everywhere.

8. Quick question from my mere curiosity: What does the X mean in LOVE X STEREO?

It means it goes either way. So, Love X Stereo means, love goes both ways from one another.

9. Now this question is directed mostly to Annie. I talked about this kind of before but I remember seeing you, Annie, on a 16 minute-ish documentary of the "K-Pop Effect" and how it effected typical South Koreans today. I remember the interviewer questioned you of plastic surgery and your past experiences dealing with the K-Pop industry. Now if I remember correctly, you were offered a deal with a K-Pop company but you had to go under the knife in order to debut. Can you tell us a bit more of that experience? Do you regret the decision of not accepting the deal? What do you think of plastic surgery in general?

> Annie: Well, I was young but I guess I wasn’t that naive back then. In order to achieve success in this business, there are many ways to do so, and especially in K-pop industry, you obviously need a certain “look”. It was very clear that I didn’t have a face they wanted. But our company wasn’t really that mean to me at all. They “suggested” me to do so, because if I have bigger eyes or whatever, people in this business are more likely to be interested in investing. It’s like a leverage. Honestly, I don’t have anything against plastic surgery at all. I do think that a lot of people gain confidence out of it, and that’s a good thing. I didn’t do it simply because, I really do like my face. I never regret my decision.

Does the decision of not getting surgery somehow tie into the groups' overall message to young South Koreans who experience this... never-ending struggle towards perfection?

Well, I haven't thought about it like that at all. Now that you asked, I just want to say "be true to yourself." Not like a relieve or anything, but if you want to go through all that, you should ask yourself if you really, really want it. No regrets!

10. You guys are growing popular in South Korea and somewhat internationally, too, so that popularity obviously includes well, the growth of fans. What's your fan base name if you have one?

No, we don't have one yet.

11. Any last words, thoughts or messages that you want to present to the world or tell fans watching this today?

There are a lot of good K-pop artists out there, yes. But there are a lot of great Korean indie bands as well. If you are interested, please try to find these bands and artists through YouTube, Soundcloud, Bandcamp or K-indie blogs. You’ll be surprised.

LOVEXSTEREO is available nearly everywhere, now planning to their American tour however, need your help. If you like them (which I strongly encourage you do), you can help raise their funds to make the
tour possible or smaller, just listen to their newest track, Bukkeureowoyo with their newest EP, Glow.

Korean-Indie Should be Glorified: LOVE X Stereo New EP & North American Tour

Probably one out of every twenty fans of Korean music have even given a chance to it's less popular internationally yet more popular nationally sibling, Korean Indie. They like the rampant beats, the auto-tuning of inaudible voices and of course, they like the bodies that even the person who has the body couldn't achieve without the amount of Photoshop, make-up and of course, plastic surgery that they have received.
Of course, Korean Indie is an amazing genre, holding huge artists that have even shone some light internationally like Busker Busker and Park Ji Yoon, brilliant and harmonious beats coming from their instruments and pure talent as well as actual meaning to the words they're saying being released. And because we actually like Korean Indie and it should be glorified a little more, we're shining light on one of our favorite Korean Indie groups, Love X Stereo

Love X Stereo consist of expert members that have more than a decade of experience in what they do, their talents growing with them and their sensitivity to music following along. Releasing music that's authentic, electronic and based on alternative and punk rock sounds of the 90's and pop sounds coming from the 90's, they are becoming an interest in South Korea. Not only do they compose and produce their own songs, but they're also a group that's currently unsigned yet continuing their journey for world domination in North America.
They're already performed at CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, MidPoint Music Festival in Ohio, M.E.A.N.Y Fest in New York City and Canadian Indie Week in Toronto (Canadian fans, you are not left out) and have been around in Washington D.C, Chicago and Detroit.

With their tracks which often confuse the Korean audience due to their fresh and new beats, this phenomenal group has been gaining respect and interest from all sides of the indepent Korean music scene, continuing to captivate the hearts of the "expat" (foreigners living in Korea) and oversea community with their new style of music "alternative dance"

Some of the bands influences include:
New Order, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Flaming Lips, The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Massive Attack, Alice in Chains, Oasis, My Bloody Valentine, Weezer, Bad Religion, Ramones, U2, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Apollo440
, Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead.

IU Holmes Reveals "Everybody Has Secrets"; Forgot her Scarlet "A"

There we go.
Previously recruited sex-dol, IU, who lost about all her fans through her picture with Eunhyuk on Twitter is now coming back and taking the course that she has no choice but to: mature comeback. As hinted by LOEN 'emselves, they noted that her comeback song will be about a young girl who is maturing to a lady and will apparently be somewhat acoustic, the juvenile yet nearing her mid-20s brunette releasing a teaser photo for a comeback holding a guitar and wearing an awkward, trying-to-be-sexy face. Of course with news of the comeback, there is also backlash: thousands of netizens pulllng out their virtual pitchforks, their flame-engulfed torches and their keyboards will LOEN begins pursuing a petty rumor-starter yet everyone questioning IU's career.

So while I'm still sitting here, watching the shit storm unravel, I'm really somewhat just curious as to how this'll turn out.

It's obvious through the teaser that she looks like a young girl who found her mother's clothes and put them on but it sounds like she's going to attempt challenging the standards of the incredibly conservative society of South Korea that brought her downfall to begin with. And with the extremely harsh standards for girls when comparing to guys when having to do with sex scandals or dating scandals, the girls getting all the blame while the guys basically getting off scot-free, I'm really unsure if she could at the very least remain at a decent level of popularity in the long run.

L is a Fan of Reducing, Reusing & Recycling Plastic Since He's Dating Do Yeon

Everyone! It's national date week! Grab a partner and if you don't have one, find a porn video and pretend! INFINITE's very own L, after f(x)'s Sulli and T-ara's Soyeon, is now in his own dating controversy. This time? The most thirsty piece of specimen I have came across, uljjang Do YeonThere's been so many articles surrounding this piece of news so if you truly don't know what's going on, here's the 411:

Thirsty as ever Do Yeon took a selca on SNS with a mysterious hand pulling at her hair. The hand? The possession of Infinite's Myungsoo, his bracelet telling it to be so.

If that wasn't enough, here's more: there's also images of him going on supermarket date with her.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're not convinced yet? Let's take a good look at their Twitter messages, Myungsoo writing things basically admitting his love for a certain person, Thirst Yeon making the most obvious message which, if read vertically, would say "I miss you, Myungsoo-ah" and a picture of Myungsoo with a different uljjang than Do Yeon, a few words typed publicly or said behind closed doors then L crying a few days post-incident, gullible fans believing oppar was crying for joy.

Honestly, I don't see why it's getting to the extent of fancafe closing, fangirls hating and feeling betrayed when seriously, he can't date all fifty billion of 'em and netizens spewing hatred. What I'm sitting here worrying about are two things:

1. Y DAT GURL SO THIRST?!
2. Why SM (since Infinite's now in SM C&C) are so lazy
with responses.

I mean, to explain the first, it's obvious she wants the public to know the relationship. Does it make her B-class link netizens are howling through their asses? No. It's just makes her attention-filled. Now, I'm not 100% they're dating but if they are, they had to have been for a good ass while since apparently sasaengs knew it but kept quiet and she had the nerve to do all that stuff and him as if they were a long loving couple. But being that... ya know? She wants it to go public, it'll hurt her that he's denying it so aggressively, their relationship probably not being able to last well and long after unless they were at an equal understanding.

And #2, SM sucks so bad at this. It's either they suspiciously wipe the world of all articles pertaining the scandal, using their power for fored removal or they spew shit like "Oh, she was sick so he came over shirtless to assist her" or "Sulli was feeling bad though I remember other SM performers were basically dying of sleep deprivation but still performed to the best of their abilities" which just really fucks up artists. I mean, there's nothing to use as an excuse for this other than their current one, stating they're "close friends" but can't they work magic like they did with Yoona and Kim Soo Hyun's dating scandal and delete the articles?

Or is it too hard for 'em? Two seconds wasted that you could've been using having Lee Soo Man's son making shitty tracks like Wolf.

You go, SM.

And you go, too, readers. On the comment section and show your support of either or side.

T-ara coming back with Number 9; SONEs fighting as usual

When you think of T-ara, what's the first thing that comes to your head?
Boram's fucked face?
Bullies?
Bunny Style?
Bitches?

Now you have another thing to think of "DEY STEELIN' DA PAWER OFF NAIN" thanks to their announced comeback, Number 9, the number obviously only able to be used by Girls' Generation so if children want to learn how to count, they have to skip this "copyright" number and if they want to be funny, they have to tell a different joke since you can never tell the "Why is Six Afraid of Seven?" joke EVER AGAIN.

Oh SONEs.

On a serious note here, I know a lot of you guys are supporters of T-ara especially after the bullying scandal. Death threats, petitions of disbandment and their fake tears on Beatles Code getting to your appendix and hurting you inside. But let's be honest:

The shitstorm has been going long enough and it hasn't gone away or ended yet. Everything they do or say is hated on and they've been prohibited to gain fans for so long, even getting a Black Ocean on top of their efforts and getting hate for their sub-unit, T-ara N4's song, Countryside Life, when honestly, the song was on the same level of their loved tracks Lovey Dovey, Day by Day and Roly Poly and was the utter shit.

Why are they still... trying?

They can go on the top of charts but group's rely heavily on their fanbase and even one of their most popular members, Hyomin, has fell behind of B.A.P's Zelo in Twitter followers. When is enough really going to be enough? When will the hate and inability to regain their status from before going to get to them and they finally hang up their sashes and just... be done?
Retire?  Give it a rest?

This isn't meant to be malicious but it's just: when you see the hate for them almost everywhere, you get a bit tired of seeing it. I mean, to most Koreans, they're done for and even though they're great in Japan, their not like KARA level to where they can fall back there. They've lost a lot and frankly, Core Contents Media's shits have obviously already been given away.

It's over, there's no chance of recuperating the group and you and I both know it.

JustPot Bieber thinks PSY and G-Dragon are Swaggy

Global superstars? Maybe. PSY and G-Dragon got complimented by the most popular kid on the planet right now, Justpot wanting to collab with 'em and saying G-Dragon is talented. As translated by allkpop:

excited to get to Korea to perform on October 10th. Maybe u will see my guys @psy_oppa and @IBGDRGN. Get the bbq ready. #BELIEVETOUR

the druggies are coming | meme Brace yourself
say no to drugs... unless you say yes

All I'm thinking to myself right now is how friggin' ironic it is how all three have been in drug controversies before and now, Justpot is up in arms with them.

Coincidence?
ME THINKS NO.
It's only a matter of time before DMTN gets in on this.

they're fucking
So readers, do you want the most High High collab you have ever witnessed in your life or would you rather not take the risk of Justin spitting in your eye like he did a fan? You get free drugs (or hugs if you're a priss) if you comment.

My Playlist Fridays: The Non-Kpop Fan Edition

We all have those friends that have little to no interest in Kpop or anything relating to it but if they are open to listening to the music, there’s going to be at least one song that piques their interest. Whether they start getting into Kpop because of these songs or not is always random but we ourselves always have that one song we’re obsessed with. That being said, I’ve decided to compile a list of songs my family and friends have deemed good enough to fall in love with and a few quirky stories to share about the effect that Kpop had on their lives (which is not as dramatic as it sounds).

1. Tarantallegra - Xia Junsu (2012)

I didn’t quite expect my roommate to fall in love with this song the way she did when I first played the music video on my TV, she immediately fell in love. I sometimes make a playlist of YouTube videos to leave on my TV when I’m cleaning around the house which means those around me will be subjected to my musical tastes while I tidy up. While I was busy she caught sight of the video and grew obsessed with the song, so much so that she even went as far as to try and learn the dance (which I agree is absolutely amazing).

2. Hate You - Ladies Code (2013)

I know it sounds weird. Hate You wasn't one of the big hitters Ladies' Code released like Bad Girl and Pretty Pretty but something about this song clearly stood out (but everyone agrees that Rise's autotuned part is terrible). Ever since Bad Girl, I’ve kept my eye on anything and everything Ladies Code. When Hate You came out, I was all over it and my best friend happened to be with me at the time when I was first listening to it. At first, I thought he didn’t much care for it but later he would ask me to play that “I hate you but I love you” song quite often. He’s even asked me to give him the file so that he could listen to it on his own without having to ask me all the time.

3. Sherlock (Clue + Note) - SHINee (2012)

Sherlock, in my opinion, was perhaps one of the best songs of 2012 (which was a good year for Kpop in general) which makes it understandable that it would catch on with a friend of mine and her sister who love to sing together. They may not have been able to understand the language but they went to great lengths to try to sing along to the best of their abilities and I have to say, they do a decent job at getting the syllables down.

4. 1234 - Lee Hi (2012)

This is yet another song listed on my list of top songs of 2012. When the song first came out, I wanted to show it to my sister because she's a fan of Adele (and everyone always compares Lee Hi to Adele, don't even deny it) and she fell in love. She thought Lee Hi was the cutest little thing and found her song insanely catchy. Even my mom liked the song and she said that it reminded her of Moulin Rouge (which is a little odd). My mom is generally one of those types of people who doesn't like to listen to music if she can't understand it but something about this song must have spoken to her because the language barrier no longer mattered when hearing the song. Me and my sister are suckers for almost any type of "independent lady" type of song which is why I thought it would be perfect to share I Don't Need a Man with her. It only took her one listen while she read the subtitles of the song and she immediately thought it was one of the best Kpop songs ever. She loved how sassy it was and she loved how, even with the Korean cultural differences, a lot of the same ideals about relationships still applied to Americans which made the song relatable to us too. Even now, she still finds ways to incorporate the English hook to the chorus into her conversations whenever possible.

5. I Don't Need a Man - Miss A (2012)

Honorable Mentions

I took a poll just to see what other songs my friends and family may have liked. There aren't really interesting stories to tell with this list, plus I had to limit it to five songs. If you ever want to try to get your friends into Kpop or at least appreciate it without turning their nose up at it, try having them listen to any of these songs

Electric Shock - f(x) (2012)
