#HadtoBeSaid: I'm Genuinely Scared for Taeyeon
Taeyeon. The main vocalist of South Korea's national girl group, Girls' Generation, is undoubtedly one of my Woman Crush Wednesday picks. However, for the past year (or even more) I have always been kind of scared for Taeyeon and sad, her, barely ever even smiling regardless of the situation, always saying somewhat morbid things that SONEs usually pass by as just another 'Taeyeon thing' (like Onew Condition... oh gosh, I remember the time I was so deep in the SHINee fandom I could barely get out) and never really bringing up the problem that this girl actually doesn't look so... happy anymore.
This issue came up to me around the I Got a Boy era when Taeyeon outwardly admitted her depression, saying this on KBS 2TV's Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook:
“After my schedule is finish, I return home and feel lonely and empty inside. I don’t know what to do about it,” she remarked.
Despite her apparent depression, she also revealed that unlike most of her other group mates, she hasn’t cried recently, suggesting that she has been keeping many of her feelings to herself until now.
as well as fellow Girls' Generation member, Sunny, on Radio Star saying this about Girls' Generation's Taeyeon's recurring depression:
"I wish Taeyeon would stop [getting wrapped up in her] depression. I'd like it if you would stop listening to sad music and putting yourself in a corner when you already don't feel good. When you're feeling down, come to me. I'll make you [a soju-beef cocktail], and I'll sing happy songs for you and do cute things."
Most people have been brushing the obvious signs of Taeyeon's unhappiness as if it is nothing. Not only did she outwardly admit it up there, but you can also see her sadness through music videos, pictures and recordings of shows, Taeyeon having a blank and nearly dead face when she was lip-syncing her parts on the more recent Mr. Mr music video, on the Mr. Mr M! Countdown performance, unlike her fellow group mates who may have lacked smiles yet had an obvious enthusiasm when they tried to act fierce, Taeyeon still wore that blank face like it was a tampon, and of course, the more memorable, Katy Perry photos taken with Girls' Generation, in both Taeyeon wears a blank, dull face similar to that in almost all of the photos that are taken of her other than her Instagram photos.
Depression is a serious issue and I can really just imagine a shit load of SONEs reading this thinking things like "Taeyeon's not depressed! You're just jealous!!11" because of course, "angels" cannot be sad and instead are always happy without even realizing the severity of this issue. I don't even think this is just a "phase" or maybe Taeyeon is just "sad' temporarily. I have noticed this for an elongated period of time and this girl just seems like her hiding of feelings and never crying is just putting more weight on her shoulders. It looks like now she's just going along just because she has to not because she wants to and I'm almost positive that there's something more than just what Taeyeon brings to the table.
It surely can't be just be thinking this. Does anyone else notice the oddness in Taeyeon's behavior? Place your opinions in the comment section below.
Idols Bitching about Consequences of Idoldom: Justified?
"I didn't choose the thug life, the thug life chose me" - the noun cannot be substituted for 'K-Pop Life' nor 'Idoldom' since in reality, they chose that life themselves. Sure, there's some companies (*cough*SM Entertainment and Core Contents Media *cough*) who linger on the streets, approaching innocent and under-aged bystanders and asking them if they'd be interesting in training with that one company, however, there's always the 'NO' word, is there not? And even if the pursuer continues to persist, wanting the person in the company so bad, then that person can continue declining the offer and walk away, most people already acknowledging the struggles of being a trainee and an idol and the pursued not being stuffed into a white van and drove to the companies dungeon, therefore, the power of 'free will' still coming to play.
Contrarily, I'd say the only people who have an excuse and right to bitch are idols like Hyoyeon who were forced into auditioning by said legal parent or guardian, most children not having the free will present and having to go along with the parent's somewhat selfish wish of living life through the child. On a different note, there's some idols like EXO-M's Kris and B.A.P's Youngjae who're totally at fault for regret, Kris rumored to have ran away to Canada during EXO's hiatus (did he forget about the contract?) and Youngjae who said that idol life was so hard, he wanted to break his arm to get a break. I feel as if nowadays there's no real excuse, many natives knowing about the struggle of training and especially if they go to audition for the company like Youngjae, they're at fault, and non-natives like Kris also probably knowing the ups and downs.
All-in-all, there's no downing of idol training here (but if you want to see the internal debate questioning if K-Pop training is useful, click here) however, when idols, especially ones who whine about their lives pre-debut when they themselves went to the audition, complain about the consequences of idoldom like lack of family, lack of privacy and lack of simple deeds humans do, I find it somewhat unjustified. Sure, no one asked for things like sasaeng fans, sleepless nights and scandals... but unless they were asleep during their whole lives pre-debut, they had to have known what to expect. Though there's only few excusing circumstances like Hyoyeon's case, not only do many idols have their lives set but also with so much free time, can't they partake in the things they've exclaimed they were banned of? Dating isn't that uncommon anymore and it's a known fact that off of promotion, idols tend to gain weight... but family (like G-Dragon who resides with his family, Jonghyun who meets his sister frequently, Yuri, CL & Tiffany who had some time with their brother, sister and cousin) is now becoming more accessible and sasaengs are becoming more of an issue for some (EXO) but less of an issue for smarty B2ST members (takes pictures of sasaengs)... so is complaining of idoldom consequences that justified with prior knowledge of what was to come?

#HadtoBeSaid: Do K-Pop Idols Really Not Have Time on Their Hands?
We've all heard and seen it before it before, "[insert idol here] has a schedule, so they can't make it to the show", "[insert idol here] is so busy" and "[insert idol here] needs to rest". However, with mishaps like Lee Hyori's "sleepy selca" (if you're sleepy, why can't you sleep?), Big Bang's G-Dragon putting a Tired image up on his Instagram and Girls' Generation's Taeyeon being able to visit Disneyland out of all places and update her Instagram literally everyday with media of dogs, stuffed animals and of course, the popular 'brushing teeth' video, which are things that do require a lot of time, it makes you wonder do K-Pop Idols Really not Have Time on Their Hands?
Of course, I'm not an idol, but from what I see and assume, it seems like the answer is 'occasionally, yes, but most of the times, no'.
As reported by allkpop, KARA's Goo Hara took time out of her extra busy day to update fans with a quick selca while also tweeting:
"I'm bored,"If idols even have the ability to be bored, spam us with selcas, post messages, buy lingerie and watch and download porn, then are they really that busy?
And with popular ways and evidence of wasting time such as:
• The occasional Facebook account (ex. Seungri, Roy Kim and Lee Michelle)
• VINE, Line & Kakaotalk
• Other sites like Weibo
• On an episode of SBS Star Golden Bell, MBLAQ's Joon revealed SHINee's Jonghyun (while preparing the Lucifer album) hasn't been out of his dorm doing much for two months and of course, always had time to hang out with friends.
• Tendency to gain weight after promotion
• Going places like clubs during a promotion cycles, massage parlors, baseball games and out and about with friends and lovers.
• Even the ability to have friends, date, have performances where they're not about to claw their eyes out from fatigue and share stories of something they previously did.
• Tiffany claiming she slept for 20 hours straight
it kind of shows idols have a lot of time on their hands. Of course, K-Pop Idols are busier than an average Joe like you and I, especially during promotion times when they look as if they can barely stand up on their own, but especially out of the promotion cycle, are they as time lacking as they make it out to be?
What do you think? Do idols really not have time on their hands all the time, sometimes have time to waste or is it all simply just a fib? Leave your comment below.

#HadtoBeSaid: I HATE their change of style!
On today's K-Pop Ranter, the writers, Tiffany and Jazmine, will be discussing the constant changes in style in the K-Pop industry, beginning the new segment of K-Pop Ranter, #HadtobeSaid. We're going to be talking about the changes (mostly hairdo's) of famous K-Pop stars in a nutshell.

Jazmine: I used to love Sunny with her cute long hair and her innocent girl image but then she died her hair purple, pink, green and more and I am just "What the fuck?". Did she shake her bonbons too much or she was mental when she went to go get that hair dyed because she looks terrible now. Her style went from cute to horrible.
Tiffany: Exactly! I hate it so much, I made a post about it. They need to stop with her hair. It's gonna fall off soon.
Jazmine: I want to talk about Hyoyeon. This girl is so talented but blonde does not go with you, honey . In Maxstep she was awesome but the blonde hair is so blah. I really don't understand everyone going blonde these days . I'm like "dude, what the hell? You look beautiful! Why dye your hair???" I don't know what has gotten into SM, but they need to change her hair style A.S.A.P. because she is a beautiful girl and we don't need anyone fucking with her hair and image.
Tiffany: Honestly, I like Hyoyeon more with blonde hair. Maybe because she supposedly "bloomed" *cough*got plastic surgery*cough* around the time she dyed her hair blonde for the second time which was around The Boys. She looked so much prettier, though. She rocks it.
Jazmine: Shindong. That son of a gun got me hating him. His stuck-up attitude and new image has me hating on Super Junior not to mention, he is the biggest in the group but has a bigger ego. I really hate the style they have been giving him and he does not deserve mercy.
Tiffany: "He does not deserve mercy"... is it bad that I laughed? Exactly, I don't like Shindong after what he said about fat girls. I mean, to be honest, he was my second Super Junior bias until that situation. Now, he sits at the bottom.
Tiffany: I also don't like Big Bang's TOP change of hair. He typically looks good with every color that he wears, but then he changed his hair to blue and I just couldn't even stand him. No.
Jazmine: TOP... Hm... Eh, I really don't have much to say about him. His blue hair stuck out but eh, I don't really care about his hair.
Tiffany: It's like what Taeyang did but worse. Taeyang kinda had something going on there but Kai? No.Tiffany: Honestly, I like Hyoyeon more with blonde hair. Jazmine: MBLAQ's Seungho. Baby, I really love the MBLAQ, but his hair has been giving me the creeps lately. It went
from normal to red. I was like what the
fuck is going on? Like, he is so cute and adorable... maybe I can grow to love his hair.
Tiffany: I don't really know MBLAQ that well to judge Seungho, but I know MBLAQ
enough to judge Thunder's new pink hair. He looks like a fucking highlighter. He needs to change that quick. Not to mention, with Mir's teaser photo for Smoky Girl is nothing but horrid.

Tiffany: G-Dragon and Taeyang's hair has been a mess since their last year comeback and even some of Taeyang before. I can't even begin to explain my hatred for their hairstylists because it's so damn ugly. Like, they're very, very good-looking but adding that damn Mickey Mouse hair to Taeyang and that super bowl cut hair to G-Dragon was definitely a no-go.
Jazmine: Well, for GD, G-Dragon's hair has always been crazy and I loved the different colors. I think since it was a fashion promotion, it really did fit the style. I even enjoyed the 'MichiGo' hair... For Taeyang, I actually kind of liked his hair. It was pretty good in Fantastic Baby and Blue.
Jazmine: Speaking of Taeyang, I hate new Kai's hairdo, like OMG! Them freaking braids has me hating on him more like, seriously? What is SM doing with him? Like, shit SM! His hair is really screwed up.Jazmine: Well, for GD, G-Dragon's hair has always been crazy and I loved the different colors. I think since it was a fashion promotion, it really did fit the style.
