- Review: 2NE1 - Falling In Love

The music video: The music video follows the general format with shots of the girls dancing, numerous close ups, and few slow motion beauty shots here and there. What sets this video apart from others is the high production values involved from the various sets, to the outfits, to the make up, all coming together beautifully. Every little bit of the visuals were near perfect and it's not hard to tell that a lot of effort was put into the making of this video. However, it's still perfectly clear that Park Bom can barely move her face despite their attempts to hide it. Minzy's pink hair is also questionable. It just doesn't seem to fit her. The dance is simple and fun and matches the upbeat tone of the music video. Plus, the girls look like they're genuinely having fun on the set pulling you into that feeling of relaxing and having fun.
The song: Though the lyrics follow your typical love song, the melody has this upbeat, reggae, summertime feel to it and an addictive melody. The breaks in the song where the girls chant "touch me over here, touch me over there," makes you feel as though I should get up and dance along to the beat. I have to say that though I was surprised to hear Minzy taking the forefront with her singing, her vocals were smooth and on point and made the song more enjoyable. Dara's parts were heavily auto tuned, drowning out any of her actual vocals, but it fit the 2ne1 style of music. CL got a chance to redeem herself from her train wreck of a song Baddest Female, delivering her raps on beat, providing a great transition between the singing and rapping without it feeling unnecessary and randomly tacked on in an attempt include the rapper of the group. The only clear flaw I can see (or rather hear) would be the opening of the song where there is this strange auto tuned screaming. Every time I hear it, I can't help but laugh like crazy.

I liked it. Especially the heavy bass.
ReplyDeleteI thought Minzy's parts were the best.
CL's rapping seemed a little aggressive for a song like this. I didn't hate it, but I think the song would have been better without any rapping.
Bom sounds good but her face looks worse than ever.
I'm starting to think CL has a clause in her contract stipulating that Dara (the best-looking member) must be given the worst style in the group to make CL look decent by comparison. This might be the worst look for Dara yet. I even liked Dara's crazy troll hair better than this.
But all things considered, this comeback didn't disappoint. 2NE1 has remained probably the most consistent girl group in K-pop as far as music quality goes.
I thought it was interesting that this song has basically been stuck in the YG dungeon for over a year. They performed part of it back in July 2012:

ReplyDeleteThat's so true! I liked the I'm the Best hairstyle more than this one and what's weird is that they always tend to fuck up Dara when all 4 of the girls are together, but during things like CFs and her solo MVs, she looked perfectly fine. I think what YG is trying to do is lower her looks and make the other girls look a bit better...
Dara looks extremely pale and albino... can't believe many Korean netizens (through nb) like it.
I'm telling you - it's CL.

Well, then, poor Dara... the victim of cockblocking.
ReplyDeletePlus, CL needs to realize that Dara is getting to the point where she needs love in her life.
