Week In Review: Sasaeng Sells EXO Undies, Nicole, Hwayoung & More

A lot of the things that are going around the K-Pop world are either too repetitive to continually release article after article explaining my frustration, not that abundant in articles and information, in my opinion, to write multiple paragraphs about the issue or just simply too boring to post a blog post for you guilty scoundrels to read while hiding under your bed to recover from your recent fapping exercise. Therefore, to kind of wrap things up and to just cover all the topics at once, I want to write this post to just sum up my frustrations for your guys to read. If you want to comment below your take on just one of the many topics I discuss, do so as I love reading comments and love seeing your take on things regardless of it's all of the stuff I discuss or just a simple sentence.

I mean, here's the thing:
She didn't leave with a brutal, huge scandal like T-ara's Ahreum who's still looked on by the Korean public years after the bullying scandal therefore, there's not much of a public push for her to continue the next step fo her career whether it's as a solo singer or in acting.
And she's not much of a singer. Nor is she a phenomenal dancer. Her role in KARA was mainly the rapper and let's be honest, a baby could have taken her place and no one would have noticed the difference since her rapping was subpar.
With that being said, Nicole, in my opinion, doesn't have much of a chance without KARA. And being that she left KARA with her previous holding company, DSP Media, apparently wanting nothing to do with her, in my eyes, she seems screwed.

Ga In Fxxk U
.
Let's be honest--why is the song called fuck you and she openly says fuck you in the teaser. I mean, the song will probably be pretty good because it's Ga In but damn, how are the announcers/MCs of music programs going to announce her win if she actually does pull it to the top? No offense, Ga In, but in my opinion, that kind of title was sort of... attention-seeking? In before the pitch forks of Ga In fans. I'm not a hater, just an opinionater.
Weekly Wrapup - 24/11/13
Welcome to the next edition of weekly wrap-up, better a day late then never! Another week has passed, and out of everything that happened this week, MAMA 2013 which took place in Hong Kong was the most prominent kpop feature for me. But of course, there were several notable kpop news / controversies arising back in Korea as well. Without further ado, here's bringing to you a wrap-up of the juicy bits of kpop that happened in the past week!
There were 2 controversies surrounding WGM, specifically the Taeun couple. Firstly, Naeun was believed to have cursed Taemin on the show, but this was later denied by representatives who said that it was not her, but a staff member ho cursed. Since her name is now cleared, all is well so may bygones be bygones.
The second controversy was what caught my attention - WGM was accused of being scripted. We've often heard of variety shows accused of being scripted, with shows such as Running Man being past victims. I personally feel that variety shows to some extent do need to be scripted. It is the script that holds the variety show together, establishing the grounds upon which the cast can build entertainment value upon, to attract viewers. I'm not a big fan of WGM, but I've seen how scripting has worked in Running Man, where guests are purposefully paired with the main cast by the PDs, and I do agree with the Running Man team for grouping them together, because their interactions and chemistry throughout the show as a team provided much entertainment worth for me. Humans are humans and not everyone clicks well with each other, so I don't blame it on the PDs for not letting the groupings be done randomly. Some examples of successful groupings including the Park Myungsoo, Kim Jong Kook and Haha trio in episode 168, and the Yoo Jaesuk and Girls' Day trio in episode 162. Ultimately, variety shows need to rake in the viewers ratings so there has to be some script to hold it all together.
However, it is different in the case of WGM, as the show was seemingly scripted line by line, and that is kind of over the top. It now potentially restricts character and relationship development, as the cast cannot make spontaneous puns/jokes which can be much funnier than preplanned ones.Personally, I feel that given the extent of the scripting, the situation is likely to not be this straightforward. (I mean, line by line, seriously?) Maybe the Taemin and Naeun couple isn't really working out and the production team has to take such measures to allow the show to proceed? No one knows, but I think that we should not slam a variety show for being scripted just because it is. It is too simplistic a way of looking at the entertainment world, which is a tough and extremely competitive one.
Loen Entertainment (home to IU, Sunny Hill, History, Fiestar, Zia) is revealed to be trying to buy over Starship Entertainment (home to Sistar, K. Will, Sistar, Boyfriend, Mad Clown). We'll see where this goes.
I find Missing You by 2NE1 to be really moving and heartwrenching. And I appreciate it even more because it's sung by 2NE1, where their rich voices can really give the song that added dimension it needs to arouse hearts. Do check out the review done on this song by Tiffany here.
The stars of MBLAQ's Hello Baby (2012, 5th season of Hello Baby), Lauren, Leo and Dayoung, recently visited their dads backstage at their Seoul tour. It's truly great to see their ties lasting longer than scripted.
EXO has been on active on variety and radio shows since debut, having been on Immortal Song, Weekly Idol, Sukira, Shim Shim Ta Pa and Volume Up to name a few. For the first time, they'll be having their first solo variert show, EXO's Showtime with member Chanyeol as MC. What will you get when you put 12 good-looking boys of diverse personalities (some talkative, quiet, clumsy, quirky, childish, playful, adorable etc) on a variety show? We'll find out soon - EXO's showtime will air on MBC's every1, starting Nov 28.
Hyorin (the diva, leader and vocal prowess of Sistar) will finally be making her solo debut. Teasers for title track Lonely have been released and they definitely do look promising, with her husky vocals shining through! Her album is slated to be released this week so do keep all eyes on her.

Weekly Wrap-up Returns

It has been a really long time, but weekly wrap-ups are finally back, hopefully better than before. Some changes would be that instead of touching on many things, we zoom in on a few ones - basically choosing depth over breadth. It will also be more personal, and free-and-easy.It is still being experimented by me so comments are welcome!
This week, it wasn't so much the music or the entertainment that claimed the spotlight. Rather, as many of you would have known by now, it was the whole controversy surrounding Ailee and ex-boyfriend Daniel Lee regarding her nude photos being leaked online.
News of the Week - Ailee's Photos
![]() |
To summarise how this whole controversy began in a few lines - 1) Ailee's nude photos revealed online. 2) Ailee's company YMC Entertainment acknowledges that it's Ailee in the photos + states that photos were taken as she was offered to be an underwear model but it turned out to be a scam and that Ailee had shared the photos with her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lee, who works in Allkpop and possibly the one that leaked those photos. 3) Allkpop denies so in response.
Honestly when I first saw the censored photos, I was extremely worried for Ailee's career. She is one promising artist with so much potential, and this could really damage her career, more importantly her self-esteem as a person. I myself have never really been a fan of Ailee, but it takes no genius to know how hurting and vulnerable she must have felt. It is also usually these sort of incidents that drive people to the edge, if you know what I mean. For those reasons, it was immensely heartening to know that Ailee still had so much support from all around, one party being her fans who trended #AileeWeSupportYou and #aileeansloveailee on twitter, the other party being several k-pop celebrities such as her well-known celebrity friend Amber of f(x) who unfollowed Allkpop on twitter after this incident. Reading through comments all around the net, it's not hard to find that many are rooting for Ailee, myself included.
Fortunately, things are looking up for Ailee and that is strangely so satisfying for me. Right when the photos were leaked, it would probably have been the hardest point in Ailee's life, but judging by where things are headed, all this might just end up to be another trial in her life, sharpening her and proving to the fans how strong she is.
On another note, I would like to give special mention to Dispatch here, because they have truly gained my respect for how they righteously rejected the photos when approached. Nude photos definitely can stir up quite a buzz, yet they chose not to because they cared for Ailee's ex-boyfriend and probably Ailee as well. They've got heart and this truly inspires me in this cold, mindless world.
